Eligibility

  • Achieved or on target for a 2(i) honours degree (or an overseas equivalent) or above
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) / combined law degree / dual law degree students from universities in a Common law jurisdiction
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree students from Hong Kong or Australia
  • Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) / Common Professional Examination (CPE) students

Dates to Remember

Training Contract 2027

  • Applications open: 2 February 2025
  • Applications close: 31 July 2025
  • Assessment dates: August 2025 onwards

Please note that if you have already applied for a Internship Programme, there is no need to submit an application for a training contract. Internship Programme applicants are automatically considered for a training contract.

Your application process

We recruit on a rolling basis, which means when our roles open, they will fill up on a first come first served basis. If the programme you have applied for has an application deadline, you must submit your application by 11:59pm (Hong Kong time) on this date for it to be considered.

Here is what you need to know.

Stage 1: Application Form

  • Enter your personal details and experience
  • Read the instructions carefully
  • Explain why you have an interest in our firm and the value you can create for our business
  • Proofread your answers before submitting them

If you are shortlisted, we will let you know the arrangement of Stage 2: Assessment Day

Stage 2: Assessment Day

The assessment day includes a written work-based case study, language assessment and a career conversation. We want to explore different aspects of your abilities and how your personal strengths will fit at Deacons.

Stage 3: Panel Interview

The final stage of the assessment process is a panel interview with partners from the Graduate Recruitment Committee. In light of recent developments regarding Covid-19, panel interviews may take place virtually using video call technology.

You will take part in a short discussion and talk about your motivations for the role and your passion for law.

We will be in contact with you soon after to let you know if you are offered a training contract with us.

Stage 4: Offer

Congratulations! We’d like you to join us.

Stage 5: Pre-employment Checks

As part of our vetting process, we will conduct a pre-employment check on your academic results and job history.

Stage 6: Before You Join

We want you to feel supported and inclusive. Before you commence, you will receive updates from the graduate recruitment team regularly. We will invite you to attend events and orientation during which you will meet your fellow trainees and other people of the firm.
