Internship Programme

Your Passport to New Adventures

Our Internship Programme can lead you straight to our Trainee Programme.

As a Deacons intern, you will have the benefit of an early exposure to leading professionals and have access to a wealth of knowledge and resources. What you learn will be totally relevant to your future career.

We offer placements lasting four weeks in June and July. During your placement you will assist your supervisor, usually a partner or a senior associate, in one of our practice groups. A buddy will be there to assist you in knowing the type of work we do and how we do it.

The Structure

In the four-week programme, you will work on real projects and discover what life as a professional here is all about.

Commences June and July every year.

  • Mentoring
Be paired up with a trainee or associate buddy who answers your questions and looks out for your well-being.

  • Assessment
Be assessed for a training contract as part of the programme.

Recruitment and Selection Process

We want to make sure that your application process is as straightforward as possible. You should consider yourself as applying for a trainee position and therefore facing similar requirements.

You will take pride in your role, meet challenges, work in a team, drive for excellence and build relationships with clients and colleagues, with integrity and trust.

Most importantly, people here are doing something they love and enjoy. This commitment drives them to deliver extraordinary client service and be proud to be part of our team.

Our requirements are stringent. People have joined us from very different backgrounds but they have many qualities in common.

Our shared qualities:

  • Integrity
  • Passion about law
  • A business mindset
  • Analytical and organised
  • An exceptional academic achiever
  • A team player
  • A strong communicator

Come and connect with people whose qualities align with yours. Explore a future full of possibilities.

Your application process

We recruit on a rolling basis, which means when our roles open, they will fill up on a first come first served basis. If the programme you have applied for has an application deadline, you must submit your application by 11:59pm (Hong Kong time) on this date for it to be considered.

If you do not have access to technology, or the right setting to complete the online/virtual parts of the process, you can contact us at [email protected] and we will be happy to assist.

Here is what you need to know.

Stage 1: Application Form

  • Enter your personal details and experience
  • Read the instructions carefully
  • Explain why you have an interest in our firm and the value you can create for our business
  • Proofread your answers before submitting them

If you are shortlisted, we will let you know the arrangement of Stage 2: Interview

Stage 2: Interview

The interview is a conversation with a partner and the Graduate Recruitment Team. You will take part in a behavioural-based discussion and talk about things that makes you unique, your motivations for the role, your passion for law, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.

An interview conversation is a two-way process. While we want to get to know you as an individual, it is also your chance to find out whether Deacons is the right place for you. You can ask us questions about the job, our expectations, what we offer and your future with the firm.

Stage 3: Offer

If you successfully complete the interview and you find Deacons is the right place for you, we will make you a formal offer in writing. We look forward to receiving your confirmation of acceptance and are ready to welcome you to the firm.

Stage 4: Network

From the moment you accept the offer, you will find a strong network of people at Deacons ready to make your experience with us truly exceptional. A group of trainee solicitors and associates will always be there to share their insights and answer your questions.

Stage 5: Before You Join

Joining a legal internship can be a stressful experience, which is why we want you to feel supported and included. Prior to your joining, we will invite you to share with us your areas of legal interest in order to select a suitable practice group. We will help you identify opportunities within the firm that match your interests and skills. You will also receive updates from the graduate recruitment team regularly. You will be informed and prepared prior to joining us.
