An excellent start of your career journey
Deacons has many community initiatives aimed at giving back to our community. For our lawyers, this starts at internship level.
We have a rich history of volunteering. As an intern, you will be invited by the firm to participate in a day of community service for non-profit organisations during your internship placement. We partner with non-profit sectors, and bring a commitment to make an impact on the community that we are part of through sharing our knowledge and skills.
The Internship Community Project is an extension of the firm’s long-standing commitment to community involvement. At Deacons, you can harmonise your career and your instinct to do good.
Interns of Deacons work on impactful community projects. You will participate in our award-winning ABCs of Law project under the firm’s Deacons Cares programme and have the opportunity to apply your legal knowledge to help children from grass-roots families. The aim of the project is to educate our future generation with a fundamental knowledge of the justice system and help them understand their rights and obligations as members of the Hong Kong community.
Our interns’ experience in this project are described below:
“Participation in the ABCs of Law has enabled me to put my aspiration of nurturing the younger generation, our future leaders, into action. Through preparing and conducting role-plays and activities, I have learnt how to creatively explain the importance of the legal system, and concepts of justice, rights and obligations in a manner which children can understand.”
“The ABCs of Law is a rewarding and thought-provoking experience. As volunteers, we need to explain some abstract or complicated legal ideas to children. The project allows interns to put their legal knowledge into real life experience and share with the children the importance of law in society.”
“Having considered the varying capabilities amongst youngsters, the ABCs of Law conveys abstract legal knowledge via the use of simple examples. By illustrating concepts in a way relatable to children, the ABCs of Law effectively breaks down the barrier to law for all members of society regardless of age.”
“The ABCs of Law project provides innovative ways to educate children on the importance of rules and law. By creating and delivering a story on intellectual property rights to children of Hans Andersen Club, they could better understand legal concepts in an engaging manner and know how they apply to society.”
