School Programme & Apprenticeship

Deacons has partnered with the University of Hong Kong to provide a workshop session in HKU’s Legal Academy for the Talented summer programme for secondary school students. The firm has also arranged the Apprenticeship Programme of Deacons, for students who perform well in the final project / competition of this programme.

At Deacons, we are committed to giving back to society and investing in opportunities for the next generation.

We understand the pressures on secondary school students to take decisions on university subjects, decisions made more challenging by a lack of first hand knowledge of what is actually involved in choosing a career path. We have decided to partner with the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Arts and the Business School of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) to contribute to HKU’s Academy for the Talented, the pre-law Summer intensive programme for Secondary 5 / Grade 11 students.

The HKU Legal Academy for the Talented Programme aims to offer an opportunity for secondary school students to develop an initial understanding of legal studies and cultivate an early aspiration towards a career in the legal industry. It includes lectures, court room, admission information and career insights.

Deacons’ input to the programme includes a workshop on commercial practice and a talk on the pathway to the legal profession. It also includes experience sharing by vacation students, trainee solicitors and lawyers of the firm.

Those who perform well in the final project / competition will have the chance to join the Apprenticeship Programme of Deacons. This three-day internship provides secondary school students with an overview into the different legal services Deacons offers, as well as giving participants the opportunity to take part in real legal tasks and to get a glimpse of life as a lawyer.
