My first Deacons Encounter
Joining the firm as a Vacation Student
At the budding stage of one’s career it is of paramount importance that exposure to different areas of practice be maximised. Deacons as Hong Kong’s own world-class law firm provides an impeccable width of work that would allow young lawyers to gain experience in an array of specialisations before fully committing to one.
In addition, I knew I would be in good hands because of Deacons’ well-structured training programme which guarantees that every aspect of professional development is taken care of.

Deacons stands out by its people-oriented culture. Partners, associates and buddies are always most happy to give extensive feedback after each task, which I really appreciate as it is the feedback and comments that drove me to improve. I feel that my development and growth is genuinely valued here, and, as such, I am never afraid of asking for help and comments. This helps to build a friendly, inspiring working environment where everybody collaborates and strives towards the end of providing top-notch legal service.
I had my placement with Deacons in June 2019 as a vacation student attached to the Commercial Litigation practice group. I was tasked with a multitude of responsibilities, which all served as invaluable opportunities for the honing of my legal skills. The fact that I was immersed in the daily operation of the practice group as a team member also painted a realistic picture of how life as a lawyer at Deacons would be like. Outside of work, new friends were made and we never lacked the chance to know more about the people around us.
Candour and teamwork both would go a long way. Be yourself and at the same time be a proactive team player, as at Deacons where uniqueness is valued, what links up everybody is their selflessness and willingness to strive and collaborate. Do take the chance and experience Deacons by joining the vacation student programme – the journey speaks for itself!
